Effective October 2026. Mileagetastic is published by Votivigy LLC. This policy covers the Android app. The iPhone app has its own privacy policy.
The short version
We do not collect your data. Mileagetastic has no account, no server of ours that your trips are sent to, no advertising, and no analytics. Your trips stay on your phone and, if Google backup is on in your phone's settings, in your phone's backup in your own Google Account, which we cannot see.
Location
Mileagetastic reads your location in two situations only: while a trip you started is recording (including with the screen off, so the distance is measured for the whole drive), and when you tap "Current location" while adding a trip. It asks for your precise location "While using the app" and never for location all the time. While a trip records, Android shows a notification with the miles so far, Pause, and End: that is how Android lets the app keep measuring with the screen off. The recorded path is stored with the trip on your phone and in its Google backup. It is never sent to us or to Google.
Google services the app uses
Maps, address search, and routes come from Google Maps Platform. When you search for an address, the text you type, the place you choose, and the start and end of a route go from your phone to Google, under Google's privacy policy. The map itself is drawn by Google's Maps software, which reports its own usage and crashes to Google. Turning a location into an address (the ends of a recorded trip, and Current location) uses your phone's built-in geocoder, which on most Android phones is provided by Google.
Mileage rates
About once a day the app downloads a small file of IRS standard mileage rates from this website. The request contains no identifier and nothing about you or your trips. Like any website, our hosting provider may keep ordinary server logs of requests, such as the IP address and the time.
Reports and email
Reports are created on your phone. When you email or share one, it is sent by you, from your own mail app or the app you choose. Mileagetastic never sends email itself and we never receive your reports. The email address and name you enter in Settings are stored only on your phone and in its Google backup.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, the app posts two kinds, both created on your phone: the notification shown while a trip records, and a reminder when a recording trip appears to have been left running.
Subscription
Your first 10 trips are free. After that, adding or changing trips needs a subscription, which you buy from Google Play inside the app. Google handles the payment under Google's privacy policy; we never see your name, your payment details, or your Google Account. The app asks Google Play on your phone whether the subscription is active, and that answer stays on your phone. A count of how many trips you have kept is stored on your phone and in its Google backup. With or without a subscription you can always view your trips, send reports, and delete trips.
Backup
If Google backup is on, Android includes the app's trips, settings, and the count of trips kept in your phone's backup, roughly once a day, and restores them when you reinstall the app or set up a new phone. The backup is between your phone and your Google Account; we cannot see it. Trips are not synced between phones, and nothing moves between an iPhone and an Android phone.
Deleting your data
Delete any trip in the app. To remove everything at once, use Delete All Data at the bottom of Settings: it permanently deletes every trip, tag, favorite location, and setting from your phone, and so from its next Google backup. The count of how many trips you have kept is not reset, and your subscription, which is Google Play's, is not affected. Uninstalling the app removes everything stored on the phone; a backup made earlier stays in your Google Account until Android replaces it or you remove it in your phone's backup settings.
Children
Mileagetastic is not directed to children and collects no information from anyone.
