What the IRS asks for
For each business trip: the date, the miles, where you went, and the business purpose, recorded at or near the time of the trip. Odometer readings at the start and end of the year are useful for showing total miles. Medical and charity trips need the same, with their own purpose.
The columns
| Column | What goes in it |
|---|---|
| Date | The day of the drive |
| From, To | Start and end addresses |
| Purpose | Business, Medical, Charity, or Personal (personal trips are not deductible but help show the full picture) |
| Business purpose / note | Who you saw or what the trip was for |
| Odometer start, end | Optional; the IRS cares about the miles |
| Miles | The distance driven |
| Rate | The IRS rate in effect that day, or your employer's rate |
| Amount | Miles × rate |
Or let the app fill it in
Mileagetastic records the trip, fills in the addresses, looks up the rate for the day, and emails you this exact table as a PDF and CSV for any period. The first ten trips are free.
The template, filled in for you
Record the drive and the app writes the row. Email the whole log as a PDF and CSV whenever you need it.
Free download. First 10 trips free with every feature, then $9.99 a year.
